My Story

Born amidst the verdant landscapes of rural Japan, my story begins at the intersection of land and literature, between a hardworking Japanese farmer and an American cookbook author enamored with Japanese cuisine.

My father, a traditional farmer, became my teacher, schooling me under the vast, open sky. From him, I learned the profound beauty and wisdom of nature, a connection that has remained my compass. My mother's culinary expertise fueled my passion for food, giving me a taste of the world beyond our fields.

My journey into the culinary arts began at Soba Ro, a well-recognized restaurant in my hometown. Soba Ro was not merely a local gem; it had a reputation that resonated with the Chez Panisse area chefs. My skills were honed in its bustling kitchen, and I found myself attending prestigious dinner events as both a cook and a translator, sharing my love for Japanese cuisine with those who recognized its artistry.

Life offered me another path when I became an English teacher for preschoolers at our family's English school. This chapter added another layer to my understanding of language's power to connect people and cultures, a gift I realized I had.

The past few years have been an adventurous culinary odyssey. Working as a food and culture consultant/assistant for my mother's business, I've traversed Japan and the globe, gathering experiences like cherished recipes.

Now, I'm embarking on a new journey with Hike 'N Dine, a venture that marries my love for food, nature, language, and culture. This is more than a business; it's an invitation to experience Japan as I have—through its tastes, trails, and traditions.

Join me, and let's explore Japan like never before. Let's Hike 'N Dine.
